We visited Courchevel this week and got the pleasure of traveling across from Geneva airport in an exclusive private helicopter - amazing views and highly recommended!
Whilst an unusual time to visit, the Alps are equally as beautiful in the summer as the snowy season we’re most used to. Not only that, but there are a huge wealth of summer activities on offer.
There are a number of ways to explore the mountains - from dirt bike and mountain biking to horse riding, abseiling and paragliding. You could try the unusual ‘Canoying’ - a not-so-gentle but extremely refreshing summer activity involving plunging yourself into the mountain streams via a series of abseil descents, jumps and natural water slides. The Courchevel guides office has set up a zip wire course on La Rosiere site near the lake and through the pine forests, you can even try water balling on the lake or bubble football - similar to zorbing!
There are a number of different canoe and kayaking options to partake in, as well as a number of fully equipped and completely safe climbing areas for a more hands-on approach to exploring the mountains. If you prefer a more gentle sporting activity there are hiking trails all around that take you to breathtaking panoramic views across the Alps. Alternatively you could take part in more gentle fitness classes such as outdoor yoga, ping pong and tennis, or you could try your hand at the spectacular 9-hole golf course on the Les Verdons plateau.
For kids there’s paint-balling, ice skating in the Forum, a treasure hunt and the brand new Aquamotion - a leisure centre spanning both in and outside with pools, slides and a spa. A two Michelin-starred chef opens the doors to his kitchen for cookery lessons for all ages at Hotel le Chabichou - there’s something for everyone!
We visited to make preparations to the luxurious Six Senses Residences Courchevel ahead of the coming ski season. The development comprises of 53 exquisite apartments for rent or purchase, coming with 24-hour concierge, spa & wellness facilities and a ski-in, ski-out concierge. Residents can enjoy all of these summer activities as well as the snow sports that we know and love.
